World renowned American jazzman Billy Cobham will perform on October 11 at
10.30pm at the Sofia Live Club
Billy, born William E.Cobham in1944 in Panama, is a Panamanian American
jazz drummer and composer who came to international acclaim in the late
1960s and early '70s with trumpeter Miles Davis and the Mahavishnu
Orchestra.
Cobham, internationally recognised as one of the most prominent fusion
drummers worldwide, is famous for his powerful and energetic drumming
interspersed with precision and intricate time changes.
As part of their Bulgarian tour, Billy Cobham will play in the Sofia Live
Club and then is set to perform on the closing day of the Plovdiv Jazz
Nights festival.
Cobham branched out to jazz fusion, which blended elements of jazz, rock
and roll and funk, playing and recording with the Brecker Brothers, and
guitarist John Abercrombie, before recording and touring extensively with
trumpeter Miles Davis.
Cobham's work with Davis during the recordings of Bitches Brew and On the
Corner, is among his most celebrated works, along with Live-Evil and A
Tribute to Jack Johnson, among other recordings.
In 2006, Cobham released Drum n Voice 2, a return to the 1970s jazz-funk
sound, with guest musicians Jan Hammer, Buddy Miles, John Patitucci, Jeff
Berlin, Dominic Miller, Mike Lindup, Airto Moreira, Frank Gambale, Brian
Auger, Guy Barker and the band Novecento.
